Post-Operative Instructions After Dental Implant Surgery

At Genesis Dentists, your comfort and recovery are our priority.
We hope your recovery from the dental implant surgery goes well. Take the time to read the details of these implant aftercare instructions to protect your implant during the recovery period.

1. Controlling Bleeding After Laser Implant Surgery

Blood loss from surgery is common. If the implant is currently bleeding or oozes blood the surface of the implants site. Position your head above your heart. If bleeding persists after 30 minutes, switch to fresh gauze, maintain consistent pressure, and continue to apply a head-down position relative to your heart.

2. Minimizing Discomfort and Swelling

After dental implant surgery, the level of swelling and discomfort should peak after 24–48 to 72 hours, with rapid improvement after that. Use an ice pack to treat the swelling, apply ice to your cheek, right above the surgical site. If you feel discomfort, take some of the medication that your dentist gave you and head to bed. Your head should stay at a higher level than the rest of your body. If used correctly, the ice pack should feel very cold after 20 minutes, remember to take the ice pack off after 20 minutes, and wait 20 minutes before putting it back on to avoid ice pack burns. Repeat ice pack on- ice pack off cycle 20//20 10-12 times. After that swelling reduction of pain and swelling should be substantial.
