At Genesis Dentists, your comfort and recovery are our priority. After a tooth extraction, following the right post-operative care helps you heal smoothly and avoid complications such as infection or dry socket.

Below are your essential after-extraction care instructions:

Immediate Care

Control Bleeding: Bite firmly on the gauze provided for 45 minutes. If bleeding continues, replace with a new gauze pad and bite for another 30 minutes. Repeat if necessary.
Avoid Disturbance: Do not rinse, spit, or touch the extraction site with your tongue or fingers for the first 24 hours.

Pain & Swelling

Pain Relief: Take Panadol (paracetamol) or ibuprofen every 4–6 hours as directed.
Cold Compress: Use an ice pack on your cheek for the first 36–48 hours to reduce swelling. After that, switch to a warm compress using the 20 minutes on, 10 minutes off method.
Rest: Avoid strenuous activity and exercise for the first 24 hours.

Eating & Drinking

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids but avoid straws as suction may dislodge the clot.
Food Choices: Stick to soft, cool foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, or smoothies (without seeds). Avoid hot drinks, rice, nuts, popcorn, or anything that may get stuck in the wound.
No Smoking or Alcohol: Do not smoke for at least 48 hours and avoid alcohol during recovery, as both delay healing.

Oral Hygiene

First 24 Hours: Do not rinse or brush the extraction site.
After Day One: Rinse gently with warm salt water after meals for one week. Mix ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. You may add a small amount of mouthwash for taste.
